How to Prepare for Your Newborn Photo Session in Jacksonville, FL
The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the best Newborn Photographer in Jacksonville, FL

Mini sessions are a great way to update your family photo here in Jacksonville. They’re quick & fun without the commitment to a full session. But because mini sessions run on a tight schedule, it helps to know exactly what to expect before you arrive.
If you’ve booked a mini session with me, here are a few simple tips that will help everything go smoothly and make sure we capture beautiful photos of your family.

Mini sessions move quickly. Because several families are photographed back-to-back, there usually isn’t extra time built in for late arrivals.
I always recommend arriving about 10 minutes early. This gives you time to park, get everyone out of the car, fix toddler shoes that mysteriously fell off, touch up your lipstick, and find me without feeling rushed.
If your session is outdoors somewhere around Jacksonville, this extra time also helps you get oriented so we can start right on schedule.
The earlier you arrive, the more relaxed everyone feels when we start.

If you’re bringing little ones, a small treat can be your secret weapon.
Sometimes I’ll jokingly tell parents we’re going to use a little “professional bribery.” A gummy snack, a mini marshmallow, or a favorite snack works wonders for getting those last few smiles when toddlers start losing interest.
It’s not about threatening them. It’s just a fun little reward that helps keep things light and positive during a fast paced session.
And trust me, I’ve photographed enough toddlers to know that snacks can turn a meltdown into a smile in about five seconds.

One of the biggest questions families ask before a mini session is what to wear.
Instead of having everyone wear the exact same outfit, I recommend choosing colors that complement each other. Mixing textures like knits, linen, denim, or soft cotton adds interest to your photos and keeps them from feeling too uniform.
A simple trick is to start with one patterned piece. This might be a dress for mom or an outfit for one of the kids. Then pull colors from that pattern and use them throughout the rest of the family’s outfits.
Also think about the background.
If we’re shooting in my studio with a white backdrop, try to avoid dressing everyone in white. You’ll blend right into the background.
If your mini session is outdoors in a park around Jacksonville, try to avoid darker browns and deep greens since those colors are already in the environment. Lighter colors help your family stand out beautifully against the darker background.

This might be the most important tip of all.
If toddlers are melting down or your “threenager” suddenly decides their ‘listening ears’ are shut all the way off, trust me & just keep smiling.
Seriously.
I promise you that in the middle of the chaos, we will get a great shot. The best thing you can do is keep your energy light and happy so when that quick moment happens, you look joyful in the photo.
Kids feed off your energy. When parents stay relaxed and smiling, it makes everything easier and the session feels more like playtime than a photo shoot.

Mini sessions are short, energetic, and sometimes a little chaotic in the best way. But that energy is often what creates the most genuine smiles and sweet family moments.
If you arrive early, coordinate your outfits, bring a tiny treat for the kids, and keep smiling through the toddler chaos, you’re already set up for beautiful photos.
And I promise I’ll guide you through the rest.
This isn't an investment in vanity. This is an investment in your legacy - what gets passed down to future generations. Maybe even to those you never get a chance to meet.
