When you’re planning newborn photos, you probably think about things like what to wear, where to have your session, and how old your baby should be. But there’s one thing most families don’t think to ask when booking a newborn photographer: What happens if something unexpected comes up?
As a Jacksonville newborn photographer and a mom of three little ones, I can tell you that even the most carefully planned schedules don’t always go according to plan.
And recently, I was reminded just how thankful I am to have a wonderful team alongside me.

I thought I had planned for everything.
I had multiple dates available to accommodate a sweet family’s newborn arrival. I had intentionally left flexibility in my calendar, knowing that babies have their own timelines and newborn sessions sometimes need to be adjusted.
And then, well… life happened.
The night before our scheduled newborn session, my youngest daughter was diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth disease.
While I wasn’t sick myself, I knew that potentially exposing a brand-new baby to an illness wasn’t a risk I was comfortable taking without first communicating with the family.
Of course, this happened during one of the busiest seasons of the year for family and newborn photography in Jacksonville. My calendar was nearly full, and the dates I had carefully reserved for this family were suddenly no longer workable.
As a photographer, that was incredibly frustrating. As a mom, I knew protecting their little one’s health had to come first.
Thankfully, I wasn’t navigating the situation alone.
One of the things I’m most grateful for in this season of my business is the opportunity to work alongside another incredibly talented photographer who shares my heart for serving families.
My associate photographer was able to step in, and just two days after our originally scheduled session, this sweet family’s newborn portraits were beautifully captured.
And looking at their images, I couldn’t be more thankful.
Not only did this family get to document those precious early days, but they were also able to enjoy the same relaxed, thoughtful photography experience we work so hard to provide.
This experience reminded me why building a team has been such a meaningful part of growing Rebecca Paige Photography.
It isn’t simply about being able to photograph more families. It’s about having people beside me who genuinely care about the experience we’re creating.
Because it really does take a village. In motherhood, in business, and in so many other areas of life.

Unlike a traditional family portrait session, newborn photography has a relatively small window for capturing those sleepy, curled-up newborn portraits.
I typically recommend photographing newborns during their first two weeks of life, when they’re still so tiny and naturally comfortable curling into those sweet positions.
While beautiful newborn portraits can absolutely be created with older babies, those first days are fleeting.
That’s why flexibility is such an important part of the newborn photography experience.
When choosing a Jacksonville newborn photographer, it’s worth asking how unexpected scheduling changes are handled.
What happens if your baby arrives earlier than expected? What if someone gets sick? What if the photographer has an emergency?
No photographer can promise that unexpected circumstances will never arise. But having a thoughtful plan in place can make all the difference.
At Rebecca Paige Photography, having a trusted associate photographer allows us to offer additional scheduling flexibility when needed. Although availability can never be guaranteed, it means we have another wonderful option to explore when plans change.
And as this recent session reminded me, that can be such a gift.
Something that’s incredibly important to me is that families booking Rebecca Paige Photography feel confident and cared for, regardless of which photographer is behind the camera.
Our approach to newborn photography is natural, gentle, and baby-led. We believe in preserving the little details that make this season so meaningful, from tiny fingers and sleepy expressions to the quiet connection between a baby and the people who love them most.
My associate brings her own talent and experience to every session while sharing that same commitment to thoughtful, timeless imagery.
And I remain involved in the overall experience and the care that goes into our finished galleries.
The goal has never been to build a business that depends entirely on me being the person holding the camera.
It’s to create a photography experience where families feel genuinely taken care of, from their very first inquiry to the moment they receive their finished portraits.
If you’re expecting a baby and researching newborn photographers in Jacksonville, I encourage you to look beyond just the beautiful images.
Of course, finding a photographer whose style you love is important. But so is finding someone you trust to care for your family during such a tender season.
Ask questions. Learn about their approach to newborn safety, scheduling, and communication. Find out what happens when plans need to change.
You deserve a photographer who understands that these aren’t just pictures. They’re memories of a season that passes far too quickly.
And sometimes, the most meaningful part of a photography experience is knowing that someone is looking out for your family, even when things don’t go exactly as planned.

This sweet session was such a beautiful reminder of how thankful I am for the people who make it possible for me to do what I love.
I’m thankful for an associate who was willing and able to step in during an unexpectedly complicated week. I’m thankful for clients who value open communication and trust us with their precious little ones. And I’m thankful that this family has beautiful images from a season they’ll never get back.
Life happens. Kids get sick. Plans change.
But the heart behind Rebecca Paige Photography remains the same: to serve families well and preserve the moments that matter most.
